Well I go this, "the last new one you bought, took you a year to set up & get right, you just like to look at them & brag to your guitar playing buddies" you have a box of pick ups, pedals, wires, pots, tubes & other crap, sell your crap & bet you could buy another Suhr, that you would play for a few days, then hang it on the wall & look at." "are you going to fix the lawn mower?"

these, which I saw this video about just the other day. And I was so tempted I did check the Amazon listing, but the price changed my mind. Too much for something I don't need. Otoh, I could understand Fil's excitement...

I tell her, truly, that I have one of each:

1 Strat
1 Les Paul
1 Bass
1 Dreadnought (steel string acoustic)
1 Classical (nylon string acoustic)

I can safely take that argument to court.

Probably.

… of bicycles to own is N + 1, where N = the number you currently own.

I think the same applies to guitars!

And, I use all of them. (Sort of*l That should blow her mind, if she thinks 5 is too many.
I almost bought a resonator last week. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend on a specialty guitar, but then I found out it was used. I could get a brand new one, same model, for $75 more. I saw a used on line for $200 less than what was being asked. So, I said forget it.
Don't like the Fender resonator even though it's much cheaper. It sounds too much like a normal acoustic guitar.

* I only use the Dan Armstrong for open tune slide & I almost never play the '62 Jazz master. I keep it because it's worth so much.

Well, it’s got the jazzmaster body, and the two P90’s, but it’s string through body with a strat trem. Bigger than I thought it would be, but super comfortable to play.

The whole 5 guitar thing started as a joke because I’ve got this guitar stand that fits five guitars standing up. More if they were all electric guitars, but they ain’t. I don’t like having guitars that are in cases under the bed, in the closet, or in the garage. So on the rare occasion that I get a new one, one gots to go. But anyway, that started the discussion about why I needed more than one guitar. And then why more than two? And so on…

I still don’t think she’s sold on it, though.

22. I Have That Stand!

Yesterday, we had a gathering at the house where my BiL (in assisted living) was over with a couple friends from his folk music days in the sixties.
I have all my guitars hanging on the wall, so I haven't used that stand in at least 15 years. Until yesterday.
I put new strings on his Bob Shane Martin, his friends had an old Gibson & a 20 year old Taylor, then I had my Martins (6 & 12).
So, I actually used that 5 guitar stand yesterday afternoon. Then, you brought up that stand.
Serendipity.

I do have to dust them every day. But you know how that goes. You pick up a guitar, there’s a better than even chance you’re gonna play something…lol.

I'd play one guitar until a string broke. Then, I'd play another until that one had a broken string. Eventually, I'd have a big project changing strings on 13 guitars!
Now, I just grab the one that suits my mood.
On acoustic, I do play the Martins most, & the Takamine which is alternate tuned. Still grab the other ones, though.
The 5 guitar stand was useful on stage because I had 2 & the guitar player had 3, right in one spot.
I still have it because it doesn't waste floor space in the garage.

23. My Wife Has Never Said That
Tue May 23, 2023, 02:14 PM
May 2023

I know what you said is common but not once did my wife say it.
Might have a lot to do with the fact that every piece of gear I have/had was paid for with gig money.
The only things I ever sold was my Oberheim OB-8 (I was going digital and wanted that spot in my rig to have a smaller footprint but more keys) and a Korg MS-20 that I wasn't using. I lent that to a guitar student who later became a recording engineer & he was using it all the time. So, after several years he called out of the blue to say he was sending me a check for $1,000. He wouldn't take no for an answer, even though I said to not worry about it.
That thousand got added to some gig money & became my Martin 12 string.

I have my 1977 Telecaster. It is all I wanted. I don't play it anymore for various reasons, but it is still here and I will not sell it. My nephew will inherit it more than likely. I also have my Yamaha G series nylon... not sure what I am going to do with that. It is old, but not sure about the specifics... Maybe late 80s?
