(14,559 posts)It's not easy to balance the contrast for definition of craters and the exposure to get some blue in the sky. Looks like you and your new toy are getting along well!

(149,640 posts)I think a lot of what looks good here is thanks to that incredible lens and the software in the camera!
Your kind words mean a lot to this novice photographer, and that's the truth!
I LOVE my new toy!

(2,655 posts)The moon was in the eastern sky in the three o'clock hour. It was visible here in Western Pennsylvania against the blue backdrop of the mid-afternoon sky. It is nice to see your picture of it approaching its setting below the horizon of the Pacific Ocean.

(149,640 posts)Actually, when I took this photo, the moon was in the north-eastern part of the sky. I knew if I waited to take it after dark, that it would be too high to capture easily!
So I got out my tripod and set it up where I could easily see it. And it worked. It won't set here till the wee hours of the morning.

(2,655 posts)I should have realized that the rich dark blue background indicates a pre-nightfall sky. As with your photo, I have snapped photos of the moon in a medium blue sky, but the camera shows a darkened background. I appreciate you taking time to set up and prepare for your nicely detailed photo.
