More tourist pictures from France

These are from our bike tour in France 15 years ago. These and the others to follow, are fromaround the gorges du Tarn. This area of France has been cut by rivers over time. This was also the home of the Cathars who were a different atholic sect than the Roman group and were crushed by the forces of Pope Innocent III around 1200/1230. The ride up the river tarn is very pretty and quite flat.
The little villages are very picturesque.

This section is one way. The other direction is on the retaining wall

lived in France for 6 weeks. These pictures remind me of the area around Eze, very steep and narrow, curvy roads and stone houses. The Romans left a lot behind in their wake. When I was there twice it was either really hot or freezing cold. I love that area.

I've always wanted to see France and in particular, I'd like to see the area where the Cathars lived and died. That's what the Catholic church did to heretics. I guess I've romanticized the Cathars and I wish I could go back in time and meet them. It would have been interesting to see if the Cathars had supplanted Catholicism as the largest Christian faith. So much would have been different.

We were there in the late fall. It would have been better with twice the time instead of the two weeks we had.
there are some great places to tour and be away from traffic. We won't mention the food.

We spent a month in Strausbourg 11 years ago, with side trips to Baden Baden and 3 days in Paris. We ate so freaking good! I loved Alsatian food and would love to go to Nice to try the fare there as well! Southern France is definitely on my bucket list and now this wonderful area too!

I kept thinking about how vertical everything is. And how the river created that.

Thanks for taking us there!
