This swarm was all over (inside and out) one of the light poles found along the walking trails.
I got several bites while intruding on them.

(90,803 posts)and start a new colony and push out more ants for a lot of years. She'll lose her wings once she has gone to ground.

(22,382 posts)I like them all with the second one best for the arrangement of the shapes, but in the first I love the full body smaller ones and the eye! It tells the whole story.

(22,382 posts)a large unending colony of ants marching in two columns in opposite directions, maybe 300 -400 feet or more, crossing paths, through a puddle. They traveled untiringly, carrying stuff the size of which would equal me carrying a single family home, then returned in the other column without the ballast. They were taking apart a tree, and I was told within a few hours that tree would be gone. They took the parts to their underground place that swelled the area when I found it.
I was scared.
This was in Costa Rica.
