You all know how much I love the farmer's market photos. But today I felt like exploring a different environment.
I used both lenses: the new 12--45mm, and the giant 100--400mm. And I had a ball!

(2,081 posts)And the niceness is not all due to the lenses. Your compositions, especially the closeups, are very good.

(151,952 posts)Apparently I have the artistic eye. Composition is part of that, but I am still learning how to do it well.
I love filling the lens!
Thank you again.

(92,447 posts)Some of my favorite things about California!
I grew up with a 70/210 lens and used that for years until I got into digital. That's when I discovered MACRO!
I like your long lens, it covers distance well. But the rose shots are my favorites in this batch.
We're having a wind storm today, the clouds whizzing by are incredible but there's no way I can get a decent shot of them because there's no holding still, even up against the porch post!

(151,952 posts)This particular part of my town is well monied and tastefully gardened. All of that makes for great photos.
My fav is the last rose. When I saw it through the lens, I knew it would be very good.
I hear you about the wind. It can either make or break what you want to do!

Your landscape/seascape photos are so well-composed--do you paint, or sketch? The subjects aren't as interesting to me as your close-ups; do you photograph people's faces in such detail? I'd really like to see what you do right in somebody's face (if they would let you--I would!--) showing pores and all.
You've created a niche with your floraporn (as opposed to faunaporn), and you just get better and better at lit. You have a gift for posing your subjects that I appreciate very much. I'm an amateur botanist and like being able to see all the bits that casual "pretty" pictures leave out. Please keep 'em coming.

I have never been any good at painting or sketching! I used to say that I couldn't draw a straight line with a ruler. My mom was the painter, and I believe I got my artistic gene from her.
I haven't made a point of photographing people's faces in detail. Perhaps I will.
Thank you for your kind words about my floraporn! I will try to remember to include those more often.
Thank you for all your lovely comments. It's not often that I get such a critique and I appreciate it a lot.
