I'm still alive, still taking pictures -- I just haven't been around these parts much of late. (Better to stay scarce than get juried. )

(22,380 posts)makes me fully understand just why I have missed you so much. I can all but hear your footsteps on the frozen surface and the light, including on the icy branches, is perfect.
Thank you.

(2,181 posts)How was the halibut fishing last season?
Blue_In_AK
(46,436 posts)We just had some for dinner last night. I think we froze about 50 lbs of filets this past summer. We're really lucky that my little brother who lives in Homer ("the halibut fishing capital of the world" has a boat.

(8,039 posts)and serene. You and your photos have been missed. No one has ever alerted on you here afaik. Also saw your grand daughter is walking already. They are going to have their hands full.

(46,436 posts)or chew my fingers off. As long as I don't venture into GD, I'll probably be safe. And, yes, Sofia is quite remarkable. I don't think I've ever known a kid who walked at 7 months.

(8,039 posts)too and now having served on a few juries even more so. I usually skim the latest them come here. I was a bit happier before being on juries with not knowing how thinned skin & juvenile people could be. Have to give the mods from DU2 even more credit for not losing it on anyone.
I have been told my Aunt & my sister walked at 7 months but wasn't born for one and too young to remember the other. lol I do know from helping the special ed at the local school that they need to make sure she crawls, even if she can walk. Has something to do with the eyes & brain development that can affect reading if skipped. Have no clue of the hows or whys but it even helped kids when they were older.

(46,436 posts)but she just kind of blew through that pretty quick. I'm sure she's just trying to keep up with Aiman.

(8,039 posts)Try to keep up I mean. Thing is Aiman looks like he is advanced for his age and the stories only reinforce that. Having worked with kids for decades I can say this, the more advanced the kid the harder the job of keeping up is. Never ending curiosity can make a caregiver old before their time. lol Luckily the rewards more than balance it out.
Slowly making my way through your Smugmug site to try to catch up on photos I missed. Beautiful but then these days I expect beautiful from you. Not long before the dogs are back.

(46,436 posts)I'm hoping that at least one of my eyes is much better by then. I go for cataract/cornea surgery on Feb. 9. They'll do one eye at a time, so I probably won't have time to get them both done before Iditarod in March unless my recovery is really quick. I'm a little nervous, but my eye surgeon is highly recommended. Fingers crossed. It will be amazing to actually be able to see what I'm shooting before I get it up on the computer where it's magnified.
Now I base my photos mostly on color or shape/composition because I sure can't see any fine details.

(8,039 posts)about 3 years ago. I took her in for the first eye then broke my feet so am fuzzy on how far apart it was. It was at least a month though. She splurged and got the corrective lens so she no longer wears glasses. I don't blame you for being nervous though have to say mom said the dread/fear of getting it done was much worse the actual surgery. Basing your photos on shape and composition has worked really well so far though I do understand the wanting to be able to see all of it including the details. I went from near sighted to no glasses at all to far sighted now and back to wearing glasses so I figure cataracts is in my future. Will keep positive thoughts going your way.

(26,044 posts)That's the sort of shot that winds up on book covers and leaves other photographers wondering "why can't I get photos like that?" Well done!
