And, somewhere in that town, a woodcarver has a sense of humor.[IMG][/IMG]

(15,812 posts)I love Mendocino, but have not been there since having a digital camera. I want to get back there! So many interesting oddities there.

(19,459 posts)Nice old coastal town, with lots of artsy stuff.
There is a beach there that is great for collecting sea glass, and a bunch of art galleries, restaurants, music venues, and cool old buildings. It is pretty touristy, but not too bad during the off-season.
They have a nice farmers market on Fridays. I'm trying to put together some shots of it.
How long since you've been there? We usually go up a couple times in the Fall.

(19,459 posts)Doesn't look quite as substantial as I'm used to seeing on the older buildings in the coastal towns but, then again, it is a railing of some kind. I don't know. Maybe a faux widow's walk.

I suspect that rail is simply designed to be suggestive of a widow's walk. Or, maybe it was necessary to comply with local building codes.

(19,459 posts)...you suppose that carving is intended to represent maritime mourning folk art, like a widow standing in a window, peering out to sea?!
Ack! I interpreted it as humor. Maybe I should remove the smiley from my description...

(19,459 posts)I think scuba pegged it in my other thread. The wood carver just liked big boobs.
Like I told scuba...somtimes I over-think things...
Thanks for the example of the masthead figures, alfredo. Makes sense.
