Related: About this forumJuly Contest Theme: Americana
AmericanaBroadly - "things typical of America"
A fitting theme for the month of July. Not really going for patriotic so much as showing aspects of life in America. Patriotic is allowed, of course.
Can relate to anything Americana - music/musicians/concerts, historical sites/old buildings, landmarks, famous roads/signs, foods, dress, events, celebrations, parades, work, play, people, animals, cars, etc..
Anything at all - as long as it depicts "things typical of America".
Photos can be in Color, B&W (or focal B&W) or Sepia.
Your photo should be no larger than 800 pixels in its longest dimension and under 300K in file size.
***Submissions will be accepted on July 13th. (A Saturday). Submissions will be blind. You will have to DUMail (PM) your submission to me. You may do so early. ***
I will begin posting your submissions on the 13th in a thread within the Photography Group. Prelims will begin in General Discussion on Tuesday, July 16th, with the final starting on Friday, July 19th.
I'll do a full reveal after winners are announced.
Thank you!

(22,380 posts)Yesterday I was in a spot downtown, taking a photo, and a couple of folks respectful dodged my field of vision.
I said to them: "Thank you. I'm taking my fourth of July photograph a bit early"
It's not worthy of submission.
But I'm inspired. It's the season.
Congrats again on your photo "Soar". It is one I can't imagine I could take, it awed me.

(90,778 posts)I look forward to your submission!
I must admit that your photos from your travels helped to inspire the theme, as well as those you take at from all around your city. alfredo's as well.
Just a little slice of life in America that adds up to the bigger picture.
Course, I hope those not living in America will still participate. Things American have a way of popping up all over. From the Golden Arches to musical styles birthed in America.

(22,756 posts)more American than fireworks... usually the fireworks are right in front of my house (over the lake)... surprisingly, tonight the display was off to the north a bit so I watched them through my tree line... quickly grabbed my little camera, no tripod and the photos are poor (blurry and tree branches in way) but funky

(14,891 posts)I see that people are considering fireworks as their "Americana" photo, but I may just go a different route. Yesterday at work one department put on a "cookout", which was fun and of course ended up to be very tasty. Camera in hand, well here are a few examples.
Heinz (oh yes, our students show no shame!) LOL!
The cookout is taunted as having the most mustard selection "this side of the Mason Dixon Line." Well, Madison, Wisconsin which is south of us has a mustard museum, so I'm a little skeptical about that claim! But be aware that I choose "mustard #32", a multi grain mustard which was extremely tasty on my bacon cheese burger!
Of course, please consider my comments more of a "tongue in cheek" type comment. But beware! You never know what I'm going to truly come up with for the contest!
