Related: About this forumA little excitement this morning (dial up warning)
Some folks dropped in for a visit.
Yes, that's my house.
Yes, those are power lines. No, the very fine pilot didn't hit them.
Down and holding for the pick up crew.
Deflating.
The wind picked up and they fought to keep the bag on the tarp.
Deflated and ready to stuff in the black carrying bag.
Stuffing
Stuffed
They couldn't have done it without the supervisor, of course.
Loading the basket.
Loading the bag.
Walking out the air and rolling the tarp.
A final heave ho and they're done. They thanked us for letting them land in our back yard. We had a choice?

(20,886 posts)The pick up crew didn't listen to directions carefully. (Yes, they were all men.) And I had to run out to the end of the driveway to flag them down.

(20,886 posts)The crew gets to pack everything up. I was amazed how fast and efficient these guys were.

(20,886 posts)Make sure you have a good pilot. These passengers were thrilled at the adventure they just had. They had no clue how close they came to disaster.

(267 posts)I was standing in the front yard when I heard a voice shout, "Can we land here!?". It was a big thrill for my father. He's 83 now, and has lived there for his whole life, and never had a balloon land in any of the fields. They packed things up really quick, and then they set up a little table on our front lawn and opened a bottle of champagne. The pilot told a story about ballooning, we had a toast, and they handed Dad another bottle with thanks, and were on their way. There was even cheese and crackers! You should have gotten a bottle at least.
