(46,436 posts)just one of the players with fire at our New Year's Eve celebration downtown. There were a couple of these fire breathers and some girls with flaming hula hoops and batons. It was pretty entertaining.

(46,436 posts)Our holidays were really laid back. We went down to WA to visit our youngest in early December, but since the kids are all out of state now, we didn't even put up a tree for our own Christmas. We didn't buy gifts for each other since we just got the Little Guy camper, which was a present for both of us. We ate king crab for Christmas dinner which was a whole lot less muss and fuss than the usual prime rib I used to fix when we had family over. I miss the girls and grandchildren, of course, but I sure don't miss all the Christmas stress.

(19,459 posts)Kim spent the last week of October, and all of November with Beth leading up to, and after, Reagan's birth. That pretty much covered Thanksgiving. We had two Thanksgiving dinners, one at Beth's place in La Jolla with extended family and the new grandbaby, and one in Riverside with my younger daughter's in-laws. Kim pretty much prepared the whole meal for the La Jolla get together (something she wanted to do).
Our Christmas Day was pretty laid back, with just a quiet dinner at home with Kim's mom and brothers. Kendall and her hubby spent the holiday at her in-laws in Riverside, and they all came up the day after and spent a couple of days at our place. We took them wine tasting and eating up in the Napa Valley, which they always enjoy; it is only about 1/2 hour's drive from here to St. Helena.
Kim is an absolute Christmas fanatic and usually has a whole bunch of Christmas decorations in the house, along with the tree, but she said she thinks this was the last year of that because it is so much work to set up and take down. That's fine by me because I'm just not that into the holiday (I'm more of a Thanksgiving guy). So from now on I expect it will be just a tree, accompanied by the tree trimming party/dinner. We won't miss the Christmas stress, either.
