First off, spell check (typos, too).

Second, the concept of self-portrait goes back a long way in the art world. Cameras have made it possible for anyone--and everyone--to be an artist.
Many, many photographers prefer not to be in front of the camera, but not everyone who takes 'selfies' is a narcissist.

One is a deliberate work of art, the other is your cousin standing in front a bedroom mirror with a cell phone... with the flash on... and the ISO cranked up to 12800.
