It's summer on the North Coast....

This is our backyard in Northern California, photographed last evening before sunset. Tonight it's about 56 °F at roughly the same time. Chilly for mid-summer most other places!

I have other hobbies too. Both of these boats-in-progress are styled after Eskimo baidarkas. The one on the left is a tandem, 24 ft long. On the right is an 18 ft single seater.

I hope you like them! Full resolution images are at https://mcamann.smugmug.com/browse

edit: I know this group is likely not interested in boat building. I posted a brief explanation as context for the image.

An old logging and railroad company town, about five miles inland from the northern Humboldt coast. My God the summers here are wonderful (and the winter's aren't bad, if you don't mind rain)! This will probably be our last year here. We're retiring somewhere else. I'm going to miss it!

I admire beautiful woodworking but don’t have the patience to even try it.

Or is that a dog?

The boats are beautiful. Do you sell them, or is this for your own recreation?

No, these are my first (and likely last) kayaks. It's been a long project-- I'm reaching the point where I really want to be on the water instead of working on the boats. The cat's name is Six. He's eighteen pounds of alpha dude.

That's also what we call the Pacific coast in northern California and southern Oregon. I'm not sure where it stops and starts, but we're pretty much in the middle of it in northern coastal Humboldt county.

Hope you will be retiring to someplace you will still be able to use them.
