Taken last week at a rest stop near the entrance to Mount Rainier National Park. I used a flashlight to illuminate the foreground trees during the thirty-second exposure. (Sony A77 - Sony 16-50mm @ 16mm - 30s - f/4 - ISO 1600)

(11,012 posts)every night. But I haven't seen that since I moved to Florida nearly forty years ago. My son has never seen a sky like that.
Here, on a dark night, you don't even see hundreds of stars, maybe the fifty brightest stars in our sky.
Someday I have to take him where he can experience the magic...

(118,656 posts)down to the dock with friends for a swim late at night. And look up to the huge bowl of a sky at the stars, all surrounded by mountains. Loved it as a kid. Miss it now that my parents have sold their cottage. Some day I will a sky like that again.

(22,380 posts)of the trees makes it look like the abundance of star light is spilling over on them and falling to earth. Worth every bit of your efforts, and thanks for posting it.
Here's what I am now forced to sing, probably all morning long. I had forgotten about it. But when I want to study composition, negative space, tonal values, cropping, this is what I go find, turn on the big screen, and watch and listen:

(19,459 posts)in cultures/times when the vision of the night sky wasn't blotted out by light pollution. This reminds me of nights camping out in the desert at Pyramid Lake (but without the trees).
A stroke of genius using a flashlight to incorporate the surrounding trees into the frame.
