I drove--all the way in the rain--yesterday to Emerald Isle (NC). It's about a 3 hour drive from downtown Raleigh where I live. The sun was out when I arrived!
Here are a few shots from yesterday
And today
the guy next door out fishing after a very foggy morning
the house where I'm staying has very wide dunes in front of it
life on the dunes
When it turns blue...
Displayed on the picnic table on the deck of the house
In a planter on the deck
Adding a little visitor this afternoon
To end the day with the rising moon and the sunset glow

(31,386 posts)and I was driving a section of I 40 that has construction. I thought about turning around and driving down this morning. Glad I didn't. I thought I might be rewarded with a gorgeous sunrise, but no! It was dense fog this morning here just like it's been in Raleigh the past few days. Took most of the morning for it to clear up here.

(31,386 posts)before moving to NC. I LOVE coming to the beach here. I opened the window so I could hear the ocean last night and I slept for 8 hours straight. I don't remember when I last slept that well or long. It's been at least more than a decade.

They say it's one of the safest places to be around other people during a pandemic. But I don't trust that there won't be some people who make even that unsafe.
These gorgeous pix are a good reminder, though, that this time of year you can often find nearly deserted beaches.

(54,770 posts)I was at Topsail beach once when a hurricane was getting close. Wasn't a big danger, but it was dark, windy, waves were huge, and it was great for a kid.
I really want to go back someday. Have fun.

(31,386 posts)Close second is mid-May. I wasn't sure I'd get here this year with all the hurricanes. This year they didn't come our way, fortunately. Instead Louisiana got smacked a couple of times.

(14,559 posts)not the same.
I shouldn't complain because I live in a treehouse in the middle of a wildlife refuge. Deer eat my landscaping and a possum lives under my fence. But ya' know the grass is always greener . . .

(31,386 posts)and I'm not fond of road trips. But there were way too many Trump/Pence signs on the way. This part of NC is very RED. I gave most of them the finger or suggested what the people who put them up might do...

(31,386 posts)I took my car in to the dealer on Wednesday to combine state inspection and make sure everything was ok before I hit the road. So what does the car tell me when I opened the door Sunday morning? Replace battery in the remote. So I run back in to the apartment from the parking garage and get my second remote, figuring it will be ok. Same thing. So once I got within 40 minutes of Emerald Isle I was eyeballing all the auto parts stores that I passed figuring I'd need to go get a battery for the remote today. I did. I can't imagine having to call an Uber at the beach to go get a battery for a remote because the car won't start!

(6,584 posts)We've got a dismal sky and snow on the ground here in northern WI - thanks for warming me up!
Cactus? Wow that sure took me by surprise, I had no idea it grew anywhere near a beach.
Oh, and I love the way you included the Moon.
