Gato, ya out there? Looking for comments.

Last edited Fri Nov 20, 2020, 10:02 PM - Edit history (1)

I've been a bit immobilized recently with back issues so I had to go back to last spring's archives to find stuff to update my website with. The pose and composition reminds me a bit of Gato's frogs so I thought I'd give him a shout out to seek his input.

edit:

Just realized Gato is dealing with a hurricane right now. Proly too busy to look at pictures, ya' think?

Sorry about your back issues. If anyone knows, a back issue is not something to laugh at. I hope SWBTATTReg Nov 2020 #1

The bird's remarkable stripes and its great pose really draw me in. Plus the superb bokeh!

Absolutely gorgeous.

Thanks for kind words. I think this is an immature red wing blackbird and they are a pest! They come through in a flock like starlings and I have to shut down the feeders for a few weeks. Can't afford to feed 'em!

Bokeh... I think it would be a hoot for a photographer to name his dog/cat that name... A photographic inside joke if you will....
Ok is this bokeh soft? hard?
I know...... lots of questions...

Converting to 35mm full frame (a 2x conversion because of the smaller sensor) that's 840mm (16.8 x magnification).

Oly also has a digital 2x converter in the body. It takes a cropped image (5 meg) and re-sizes it to 20 meg. I don't know what magic the camera works but I personally see no quality loss. That means I can effectively reach out to 1,680 mm. My moon pix are shot using the digital 2x at 1,680.

The new 150-400 was just announced at $7500. I downloaded some full size .jpg files and it is SHARP! It's been, "401k or lens?" ever since . . .

photo looks great.....super sharp. the only think i would do differently is crop it at 4:3 (which is what the olympus sensors are) or 3:2 (like a standard aps-c or full frame perspective)......i imagine it was cropped square for instagram.

Since I started publishing to the web instead of fitting to standard frames I've drifted away from paying attention to aspect ratio. Most people find a rectangle more interesting than a square which tends to be static. It would look better if there were more room on the right to increase the eye movement for the viewer.

Good thoughts, I'll start paying more attention to aspect ration as a composition component.

...it really comes in handy if you want to use an image in a header of a website or in a publication and need distractionless area to put text. think i went overboard on this one?

a part of a grouping or as you mentioned as a platform for text to fill that space it's going to be just fine.
