The times they are a' changin'----In the photo world that is.
In the Japanese market:
Olympus has maintained it's 23% market share for mirrorless ICL cameras despite being sold to JIP, putting it in third place. The big news, however, is that Canon has dropped from 30% market share to 23% and Sony has taken first place at 27% market share. The last sales by model numbers showed Oly with 3 in the top 10, Canon had 2, with the rest split by Panasonic, Sony and Fuji. Ironically the Canon entries were M series cameras which are rumored to be discontinued. All the top sellers were APS C or 4/3, no full frame. The only FF camera to crack the top ten in the last 3 years was the Sony A7.
In an unsettling bit of news, Nikon sales have fallen to the point that speculation is that it will be 'the next Olympus' and sell it's imaging division in the next 2-3 years. Industry analysts attribute the decline to being late adopting mirrorless technology. If true that would also explain Canon's loss of first place in sales to Sony.
