1. These are wonderful captures, my dear Grumpy Old Guy!
The second photo really grabs me, mostly because they're rearing. The background looks good too!

10. Maybe a little bit scary
A stallion fight is not to be taken lightly. It can be quite violent.
The photos are gorgeous, though. |

13. More than a little bit scary.
At the end of the day a curious stallion brought his family up close to see what I was doing. It scared the crap out of me but it was beautiful. I just talked to him in a calm tone of voice.

12. Great stuff you old Grump!
My first sighting was about '74 just north of Tygh Valley, Oregon on Hwy 197.
I was driving my old VW camper and had to stop on the road to let them pass. There were dozens. I sat with my mouth wide open, awestruck at something I had heard of but never seen. |

14. My first sighting was in Monument Valley.
A small herd went galloping by. I was so startled I was only able to get a shot of the last straggler.

15. Beautiful stallions.
It's sickening that the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management are ripping America's wild horses and burros off our public lands to serve special interest groups like cattle and sheep ranchers.
The Wild and Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971 states: §1331. Congressional findings and declaration of policy Congress finds and declares that wild free-roaming horses and burros are living symbols of the historic and pioneer spirit of the West; that they contribute to the diversity of life forms within the Nation and enrich the lives of the American people; and that these horses and burros are fast disappearing from the American scene. It is the policy of Congress that wild free-roaming horses and burros shall be protected from capture, branding, harassment, or death; and to accomplish this they are to be considered in the area where presently found, as an integral part of the natural system of the public lands. Yet it is our government agencies who are supposed to be protecting them that are capturing, branding, harassing, and killing them. Herd after herd is being culled down to non viable numbers. |

17. Yes, it is tragic.
And they do it with no proof of overpopulation. They are managing them to extinction.
During the most recent cull the Bureau of Land Management through last Saturday has captured 344 wild horses on the Onaqui Mountains Herd Management Area in Utah. A 4-year-old bay mare was euthanized on Friday after suffering a broken front left leg, according to the agency’s gather report. |

19. Great pics!
I am really hoping Secretary Haaland gets a handle on the BLM situation regarding mustangs. There are recent reports of people adopting them, collecting the monetary incentive, and then sending them to slaughter in Mexico and Canada, since the slaughter houses were finally closed in the U.S. Back in the bad old days, they used to bring .60 a pound.

20. It's a bad situation.
A lot of people are very unhappy with the roundup that took place this past week.
