However, I picture you setting-up equipment on your balcony at about 3:30am where the temperature is ever-so-slightly above freezing just waiting oh-so-patiently for the sun to arise so that you might catch the first few drops of OMG!...click-now, click-now, my frozen little click-finger...got it (!).

(5,420 posts)4. Thank You wyn borkins. However, your 3:30 am scenario notwithstanding,
what usually happens is my wife gets up, sees a pretty sky out the bedroom window and says to me "pretty sky," at which point I totally take her word for it, get dressed hurriedly, grab camera and shoot hand-held from the back porch. Fingers do get cold though.
Your balcony setting is more dramatic. But I'm not.
