ABC adds third hour to 'Good Morning America'

ABC plans to launch a third hour of "Good Morning America" programming in early September that will air in the early afternoon, Variety is reporting.

The network plans to pair current GMA co-host Michael Strahan with Sara Haines of "The View" for the new block of programming. The two are set to host their first hour starting Sept. 10, according to Variety.

GMA currently airs from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. EST on weekdays. The third hour would reportedly air starting at 1 p.m. on weekdays. The show would be taped instead of airing live.

Variety noted that while GMA is the highest-rated morning program, NBC’s “Today” show usually attracts more viewers in a key demographic coveted by advertisers.

but at least it didn't rhyme with View.

I think Good Day America would have been better.

That’s weak. I like Sara but I doubt I’ll watch. This replaces The Chew, a show I usually watched. I don’t need the first 2 hours of GMA, much less an extra taped hour.

As they used to advertise,
"More news, less talk".

I'm not interested in recipes, Hollywood gossip, etc.

I switch between CBS and Morning Joe.

I grew to like the 3 hosts on The Chew and used their recipes and ideas. It was a good show for cooking fundamentals but I guess ABC wanted to cut costs. It was an uplifting, leasant break at lunch. Taped GMA afternoon hour is a huge yawn.

Going back to David and Joan, that was how I got my first introduction to news back in the early 80's.

I liked Charlie Gibson on it as well.

The last few years has been a steady increase in puff and fluff and a whole lot of "well, here's what both sides say" and leaving it at that.

It became very easy to abandon the show.
