"The Killing" is dead. AMC announced that the controversial series has been canceled after two seasons, according to Deadline.
"After much deliberation, we've come to the difficult decision not to renew 'The Killing' for a third season," AMC said in a statement via Deadline. "AMC is incredibly proud of the show and is fortunate to have worked with such a talented team on this project, from showrunner Veena Sud and our terrific partners at Fox Television Studios to the talented, dedicated crew and exceptional cast."
Though "The Killing" earned critical acclaim when it first premiered on AMC in April 2011, the series experienced extreme backlash when the show's question, "Who killed Rosie Larsen?" wasn't answered by the end of Season 1. Sud assured the audience that the question would be resolved by the end of Season 2. "Our intent was not to mislead or betray," she explained. "We talked about the fans, and their passion, and all of the stuff that was being said on the internet. But the bottom line is, we close the door and we're a bunch of people in the room, and our job was, and continues to be, to tell the story that feels right by us."

(16,334 posts)We were wondering what they were going to do next. The characters were so good they could have carried out a show without dragging the story for an entire season.

(23,796 posts)The lengths they went to, delaying the story for two full seasons, it just made the two detectives look like the crappiest detectives ever. It's resolved now, and there were great moments in the second season. I love all the actors, though. And you had to keep reminding yourself that this was only three weeks of these people's lives. A lot of stuff was understandable that way.
I just wish we'd known who killed Rosie at the end of the first season, and the next murder had been the cliffhanger. A next murder, I mean. I think audiences would have felt better about that. I heard the original series went ahead and ran their second season immediately after the first because of the interest. Oh, well.

(4,851 posts)I think that was a tragic decision. Many fans left the show over that decision. I always consider my circle of friends a good guide, and half of my group that watched the show in season one, never came back. It was a bad decision.
