1. Because they're all 85 year-old snowbirds

cruising around at 22 mph in their antique Cadillacs?

2. The wide streets in Phoenix

are conducive to safety, I believe. I lived in Phoenix for 15 years, and felt very safe driving there compared to other cities I have lived in.

3. My fellow Tucsonans

The drivers here in Tucson are terrifying. The use of turn signals is considered to be a sign of weakness. Stop lights are merely intended as suggestions. Bicyclists and pedestrians are prey. Lane usage? "If I'm in it, it's my lane. Whaddaya mean I'm on the wrong side of the road?"

4. I never noticed that

but I can't deal with how slow everyone drives, it's really weird.

The main roads could use some work, it's gotten better over the years (ask an old timer what Ina used to be like) but the number of potholes and cracks on main streets like Broadway don't come off very well to visitors.

5. Tucson and Phoenix are two different worlds

Tucson drivers are horrid - slow, don't pay attention, etc.
