Fact Check: Does Arizona rank last in teacher pay?

You betcha!

Fact Check: Does Arizona rank last in teacher pay?

The Morrison Institute for Public Policy, a researching group out of Arizona State University, curates and updates the Education Progress Meter.

Dan Hunting, the senior policy analyst at the Morrison Institute, said their analysis combined two sets of state-by-state data that is gathered by the federal government: elementary school teacher salaries from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the Regional Price Parities (RPPs) from the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

To create a more precise measure of teacher pay, the Morrison Institute adjusted median pay for elementary school teachers (excluding special education) for the cost of living in each state using the RPPs. The most recent data from the BLS was from May 2015.

The original BLS data ranked Arizona 49th with a median pay of $39,300. Oklahoma was last, by a margin of $30.

But when the Morrison Institute adjusted it for the cost of living in each state, Arizona slipped into the 50th slot with median salary of $40,768 and Oklahoma moved up to 49th, with a median salary of $43,585.

1. Have to take

exception to these Salary Average Aggregates. Appears all non monetary values were added in. Benefits paid and Pension Contributions. When you see these averages, remember, they as a rule include all School Administrators who as a general rule are paid at three to five times the Class Room Rate.

Yes Arizona sucks for teacher pay,Utah and Nevada are in the same boat. Twenty Thousand is the usual Rookie pay in these School Districts. Yes some do luck out and start at a higher rate and that is based on a specific skill set.
