https://www.willcoxrangenews.com/news/article_00dca0b2-7a34-11e8-a180-efad5aa3a660.htmlDecades after initial leads in the case had grown cold, National Park Service spokeswoman Libby Schaaf announced last week that new information has prompted NPS investigators and Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels to renew their request for the public's help in solving the 38-year-old mystery.
Investigators suspected foul play early on, and a formal missing-person case remains open, she said.
On Jan. 13, 1980, Park Ranger Paul Fugate, then 41, walked out the door at about 2 p.m. to check out a nature trail at the mMonument, vanishing without a trace. At about 2 p.m., Fugate, the only member of the permanent staff on duty that day, walked out of his office to check out a nature trail.
He had left instructions with the only other person there a seasonal employee that if he wasnt back by 4:30 p.m., begin shutting down without him.
