The 10 "dumbest" and smartest cities in California

http://www.sfgate.com/entertainment/article/Californias-10-dumbest-cities-6882988.php

California is known for many things, like its beaches, mountains, and Hollywood, but a new study wants you to know that we’re also not that bright.

RoadSnacks determined the dumbest cities in the state and they ranked the top 10.

They got their inspiration from the Washington Post, which in a similar survey ranked the smartest states in the country; California came in at 34th....

On the other side of the spectrum, mostly Northern California towns made the list of the 10 smartest cities in California. The Bay Area should be proud too because seven places made that list.

Most of the dumbest are in the Central Valley, although, surprisingly, two are in L.A. County. Looks like we need a John Edwards (minus the philandering, please ) to talk about "two Californias".

That miserable hell hole apparently decided long ago that the only way to fill its municipal coffers is turning that miserable dust bin of a town into a speed trap for drivers traveling between LA and San Francisco. Of course, this just makes people like me avoid that hell hole all that much more.

Their ten 'smartest' cities are also very well-off cities. The ten 'dumbest' have a very poor population. There is a correlation between wealth and educational opportunity. Wealthy areas have superior schools, poor areas struggle to keep the schools stocked with the basics. I know of several people in those 'dumb' cities that have to gather simple items like paper, pencils, crayons, etc for their kids or grandchildren. And they have to do it the entire school year, not just the opening session. These poorer/dumbest cities don't have the well-paying jobs nor generally the educational opportunities that the wealthier/smartest cities have in abundance. Stupid them, huh?

It's sickening to think of anyone being smug and superior about their rarefied status as the smartest city.

No, my city isn't on the 'dumbest' list - but it probably barely missed the mark. The Central Valley has a lot of farming and ranching, areas that tend to have a lot of migrant or transitory populations. Perhaps the 'help' that works for them go home at night so they don't drag down the collective intelligence of these beautiful cities.

I know their criteria is by high school and college degrees, but that doesn't confer intelligence. I give you Ben Carson, George Bush, Donald Trump, et al.

I'd welcome a John Edwards right about now. I think we have one in Sanders. Thank Gawd. I seriously doubt he would grade poor people's intelligence by their lack of opportunity or location.

This article is a piece of elitist trash.

Looks like we need a court decree like New Jersey has to address the disparity in school funding between the haves and the have-nots.
