Fourth Democrat announces campaign against Rep. Darrell Issa

Sara Jacobs has announced she’s running against Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista in 2018, becoming the fourth Democrat to enter the race.

Jacobs, who worked in foreign policy at the State Department and the United Nations, said she has always tried to make the world more just and fair and will work to close gaps in education, housing, income and other factors for success if she’s elected to the House of Representatives.

“Unless we do something now, it’s going to get baked into the foundation of our system,” she said by telephone on Wednesday.

Democrats Doug Applegate, Mike Levin, and Paul Kerr are also running. Last year Issa, a Vista Republican, won reelection by 1,621 votes, the closest congressional race in the country. The contest has become one of the most watched in next year’s midterms and is expected to be one of the most expensive. The coastal district runs from La Jolla to Dana Point.
