Anybody know what the work rule changes were that BART management came up with at the last moment? (Original Post) Ken Burch Oct 2013 OP

Those rules are so ridiculous, I kind of sense management knew the union would reject them. Starry Messenger Oct 2013 #4
I don't know, but I do know that this has been ongoing since the summer. nt NYC_SKP Oct 2013 #2

Among them:

- Train operators being told mid-shift to leave the train and serve as Janitor

- Train operators told by management to skip safety breaks and continue operating trains and putting passengers at risk

These seem like actual safety concerns that were put in to specifically provoke a strike, but the press will just lump them under "Work rules" and remind everyone exactly how much a BART worker makes vs minimum wage, and how selfish they are for going on strike.

I don't usually indulge in conspiracies, but I wonder if putting the BART workers in a position where they would be forced to strike was management's goal.

But who knows, I've had tone-deaf bosses who don't think about safety. I didn't work for a major transit system though.
