Weld County agrees to $250,000 settlement with company that built Weld County Parkway
Weld County commissioners on Monday agreed to pay the company that extended Weld County Road 49 $247,436 as part of a settlement agreement that arose when high water prevented work on two bridges for more than a month.
Weld County in late 2014 contracted with Flatiron Constructors to build a 3.5-mile section of Weld 49, extending the road north from U.S. 34 to Weld County Road 60 ½ (Greeley's A Street). Building the so-called Weld County Parkway cost $29 million, with a little more than half of that going toward the construction of bridges over the South Platte and Cache la Poudre rivers.
With the help of a $3.1 million grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, Weld County paid cash for the four-lane, concrete road and two bridges. The county incurred no debt from the project.
The Weld County Parkway opened Nov. 10, 2015, a couple of months later than planned.
