Delaware sets new record for COVID-19 hospitalizations; cases continue to increase
There are now more people hospitalized in Delaware with COVID-19 than ever before.
The state reached the grim milestone on Tuesday, reporting 338 hospitalizations, one case higher than the spring peak of 337 on April 27.
The number of hospitalizations hit a low of 29 on Aug. 16, before gradually rising throughout the fall. Delaware crossed the 300 mark for the first time this fall on Saturday. Over the past two weeks, hospitalizations have increased by about 85%.
"This is the biggest concern for all of us," Gov. John Carney said at his weekly COVID-19 press briefing on Tuesday. "Those hospitalizations numbers are as real as real can be. Theyre there, theyre present in the hospital. Not a hoax, this is real and its serious."
