Gusty Winds Blow Roofs Off Across The City

by Christina Sturdivant in News on Apr 6, 2017 2:39 pm

D.C. Fire and EMS officials say that this afternoon's gusty winds ripped the roofs off multiple buildings across the city. ... Officials have shut down traffic on North Capitol Street between M and H Streets after winds tore part of the roof off St. Aloysius Church on the campus of Gonzaga College High School.

When this afternoon's storm began, Gonzaga officials ordered everyone to shelter in place, according to the school's spokesperson Steve Langevin. Officials eventually "gave the all clear" and students were released at their normal 2:45 p.m. dismissal time.

There were no reports of injuries, Langevin said, and the damages to the roof are still being assessed—there's no word yet on how much repairs will cost.

Several photos of the damage at Gonzaga surfaced on Twitter.
