Local Takoma Park hero 'Root Boy Slim & the Sex Change Band' were the hottest act in DC at the time.

met a family few weeks ago, at art exhibit at Ethiopian coffee shop in nearby Silver Spring. 2 kids, girl and boy, around 10, reading BOOKS constantly, as people chatted and looked at the art. Spoke with the mother, who said the kids ALWAYS read, and they read BOOKS, not nooks, don't play computer games, and attend Takoma Park school which encourages such, including independent thinking.

(We lived about 15 minutes away from Takoma Park, in DC, for 20 years.)

It's only partially bullshit, BTW. Most of the hippies in Takoma Park got more conservative years ago. They're all still there... working for the Man... voting for center-right local elected officials (except for Marc Elrich, he's a leftie who votes center-right in order to fairly represent his constituents). There is NO "progressive club" for lefties in that area, to the best of my knowledge. The Democratic Party in DC has become the party of the upper middle class. If you aren't a member of the professional class, most of the people won't speak to you.
