Liberty County high schooler wears Confederate flag costume to school, sparking concern

Videos of a Liberty County High School student wearing a Confederate flag outfit surfaced on Facebook this week, drawing criticism from local parents and students.

The student — wrapped in a Confederate flag and wearing a matching Dr. Seuss style hat — was called to the office Tuesday, according to a statement from Principal Eric Willis to parents.

“The situation has been handled,” the statement read. “LCHS does not condone any offensive apparel on campus whatsoever.”

Facebook comments, including one from the student’s parent, said the student received an in-school suspension, but the Bristol school has not yet confirmed that.

.... it's more about egotistical shock value then ideology. His parents probably filled his head with bullshit, and he used it to his advantage. Like most teenagers, his brain is not developed enough to comprehend the abuse, agony, and heartbreak black people went through during that dark time in our history. He might never turn around, but with age comes a little more education , and with education comes a little more wisdom. That wisdom can either alter someone's way of thinking, or it may be set in concrete. Although the odds are against it, I would hope he chooses a better path in life.

When I was in High School, we had boys show up with swastikas on their shirts, or girls would come in with a see-through blouse and no bra.

I always felt sorry for them.

There's not any real ideology as inspiration. Just really dumb ways to get the attention they crave.
