Sure it’s not education, but it’s typically in a bachelor degree area. Sounds like the communities need to pay more for teachers. Having 9000 vacancies is not good. The educators are complaining about this, but what are their alternatives since we’re talking schools opening in two weeks. They’ve had the entire summer to do something.

The vast majority of enlisted are straight out of high-school. Not to mention this includes their spouses. It’s political theater just like the bs with Disney was. Do you seriously think a principal is going to hire any of those “teachers”? It looks pro-military, pro-education and accomplishing nothing. Standard DeSatan smoke and mirrors. It’s inline with DeVos plan to break public education.

see why being a vet would be more preferential than any other person's qualifications. Having extra help would be beneficial, especially in curriculums that have large class sizes but teaching requires significant education and preparation skills. This move smacks of attempting to devaluate teacher educational qualifications. Remove the "vet" preference and open up opportunities for others in aide type positions. That experience could perhaps count towards teaching degrees down the line if the person wants to complete that curriculum.
If someone is going to remove my appendix, I want an appropriately educated person to do the job. The same applies to people molding the minds of the next generation.
Personal observation: I have been married twice. Both were teachers, educators and had masters degrees. One of my daughters is a teacher. Her husband is a teacher. Teaching is a tough job and not everyone is suited for it. Being a vet has absolutely nothing to do with the person's ability to be a teacher. It is neither a plus or a minus really.

Yes, teacher shortages exist, but teachers in DeSatan's Florida have targets on their backs because of his "culture wars" propagandizing. Those who can will leave for places where they are not labeled the enemy nor used as political chew-toys to stir up rethug base.

Add in the political climate and ever reddening color of voters and public education has been struggling for a long time. Like you say....DeSantis just wants to finish it off.

Have it taught by totally unqualified people so regular folks stay ignorant and only true knowldge is taught at expensive private schools.

And unlicensed pilots too, yup. Pay them minimum wage and WATCH OUT!!

Unlike hiring a new teacher, veterans already have pensions and healthcare, so the state won’t have to spend $ on those things! Cheap bastards!

Florida Republicans have worked hard to drive teachers from the classroom. Good teachers leave because they have alternatives and don't have to take the abuse stacked on them year after year. Untrained and undereducated veterans will, in effect, just be babysitters. It is a win/win for Republicans who depend on voters who have never developed critical thinking skills to keep them in power.

I guess Florida's next move will be to hire people on work release from prison.
