Boynton man gets prison sentence for scamming IRS out of nearly $500,000

A Boynton Beach man was sentenced Friday to 2 ½ years in federal prison for repeatedly lying on his tax returns, to the tune of nearly $500,000 in refunds, federal prosecutors said.

David Andre, 41, pleaded guilty in federal court in June to scamming the money from the government and using it to buy a home, a Mercedes-Benz, a Jaguar and other luxury cars.

On returns filed from 2010 to 2015, Andre falsified his income and the amount of income tax he withheld, resulting in payouts totaling $485,000.

Andre previously worked for a home improvement, and more recently in the parts department of a car dealership. After he is released from prison, Andre must serve three years of supervised release.
