We leaned into wanting to choose an individual that has the ability to be the governor of the state of Florida, Gillum said in the announcement before introducing the Kings.
King, who ran against Gillum in the Democratic gubernatorial primary but placed fifth, was all but certain to be the pick Thursday. That morning, Gillums campaign appeared to launch www.gillumking.com, a website touting the ticket.
But King joining the ticket marks a change in the Orlando-area businessmans thinking since the campaign for governor. In a July interview, he told the Times that the LG position is "not really something that I feel led to do.

We'll see.

(3,922 posts)After I had already voted by mail for Gillum, Chris King came to our local Democratic Women's club meeting in St. Lucie County.
He was terrific - a dynamic presence, smart, and well-in-tuned to the issues on the street in Florida. He made numerous references to reaching out to the African-America communities, which have been long-ignored in most parts of Florida. One of the local School Board members, an African-American woman, enthusiastically endorsed Chris after his brief speech.
Chris ran last in the primary, but he did arrive on that day with a full staff and in a big bus emblazoned with his campaign logo.
I only eliminated Greene from the initial slate due to his negative ads, but I though either Graham or Levine would win it against tough competition - naturally, I was thrilled with the outcome!
Now it's full bore ahead: Lauren Baer for Congress, Sen Nelson for Senate, Andrew Gillum and Chris King for Florida!
