Paging Rick Scott

[link:https://www.cbsnews.com/news/senate-coronavirus-economic-stimulus-package-bill-2020-03-25/|]

The bill increases the maximum unemployment insurance payment by $600 per week and extends the period for which workers are eligible to four months. Four Republican senators — Senators Tim Scott, Rick Scott, Ben Sasse and Lindsey Graham — raised concerns about what they called a "drafting error" in the bill, arguing that the expansion could incentivize workers to lose their jobs if the totality of state and federal unemployment benefits exceeds their current income.

******

Once again, progress grinds to halt while some shitheads discuss the possibility that some people might actually get a few more bucks than they "deserve" or be "incentivized to lose their jobs." GOOD GOD!!!

How much money are we talking about here, versus the corporate bailouts they don't think twice about signing off on?

And if so, what's the difference?

I mean, I wish these guys would just listen to themselves. How many people are staying home, being laid off, losing their jobs, etc. because the alternative is to RISK GETTING A VIRUS THAT CAN KILL YOU? Are those people really thinking they should quit MORE because they'll get more money? OK, say there's some people in that category; how much would that cost versus going ahead and helping people who are desperate? Do these people not know ANYBODY who's not independently wealthy?

When I moved to Florida in 1996 I was collecting unemployment from Wisconsin. The first job I had here paid less than the $550 a week I was getting for being unemployed. I collected for five of the six months I was eligible for, then took the deliberate typos out of my resume and got a job.

Republicans are assholes every single one.

Unemployment comp usually doesn't kick in if you're fired for cause. So I'm not exactly sure what the fucking hell they're bitching about.

Of course, like must Rethuglican scum, they'd rather everyone suffers just so someone, somewhere, in some bizarre, never will actually happen scenario doesn't overly benefit. I don't give two shits if a handful of folks get more than they supposedly deserve as long as everyone is secure. Funny how that Rethuglican thinking doesn't apply to big business or defense contractors.

They want to hold up the disaster relief bill on the flimsy basis that it might put a few extra dollars in a few people's pockets (that aren't his or his cronies).

Shame on them!

Who was CEO of a company that perpetrated the biggest Medicare fraud in the U.S. Yet he thinks that unemployed people will get more than they deserve. It's a wonder he hasn't been struck by lightning yet.

... lost count of the number of times he said “I don’t know” or “I don’t remember” ... the man is truly vile.

Oh well — looks like they passed it at the 11th hour! At least we can celebrate that. Hope the House doesn’t gum it up.
