Record Herald and Indianola Review
Latham didnt always think shutting down the government was acceptable. In fact, he made it very clear where he stood on a potential shutdown: Im certainly not for any kind of government shutdown for any reason. ... I think it would be irresponsible.
Latham said that at a citizen meeting in Atlantic on Aug. 27. But earlier this week, a month after his Atlantic meeting, Latham voted for legislation that all but guaranteed a shutdown in an effort to delay the implementation of Obamacare.

Regardless of what you think about Obamacare, its not going anywhere. Latham agrees, or at least he did in August, at that same town hall meeting, when he said some people talk to me about the Affordable Care Act the presidents health care bill that if we dont defund it, that we should shut the government down. To me thats not being responsible because it will have a huge, negative impact on, like I said before, our people men and women in uniform, veterans and the entire government.
Five days into the shutdown, and we are already seeing the negative impact, just as Latham predicted. He was was right in August when he said a shutdown would be irresponsible.
End Cut
So how did he get from "Irresponsible" to "Shut it down"? What was he promised or threatened with to have a 180 degree turn like that?
