Waukee schools settles six-figure wrongful termination lawsuit

The Waukee Community School District paid a former employee $175,000 Monday to settle a wrongful termination lawsuit.

Nicholas Bavas sued the district and Chief Operating Officer Eric Rose in June saying he was forced to resign from his operations manager position after revealing details about the improper use of school property, falsification of employee time cards and Rose's receipt of improper vendor payments.

This is the second settlement the district has reached with a former employee related to an internal investigation into Rose's conduct.

Terry Welker, the former human resources director, settled with the district for $985,000 in January. He claimed the district eliminated his position after he reported Rose's conduct to investigators.
