1. My sister called from Northern Illinois.

They have horses, this is the first time they took extreme measures due to weather. They bought heaters for the barn, put plastic over the windows to keep the drafts out. Used heavy saddle blankets to keep them warm. They also brought in their 4 cows this time. It was brutal there last night.

My sis said their furnace was set at 65 and never shut off last night.

3. Still -6 and snowing in the Cedar Valley

We won't see above zero until tomorrow. This is the fourth day that the Cedar Falls schools have been closed.

7. Ours were still closed today also - I can't remember if they went Monday

Last week they got in 2 days because of the snow, this week they will go tomorrow, I think. It may be delayed due to blowing snow.

Can't remember 2 weeks back-to-back that have been this hard for schools in a long time.

And it is supposed to be near 50 this weekend.

I went for a walk this afternoon on the riverwalk in Dubuque. Felt good too to be outside.
