Capitol Report: A look back on the week of April 8
In the House this week, budget bills dominated debate. In the Senate, legislators worked to push their budget proposals out of committee.
Lawmakers likely have less than 30 days remaining in the 2019 legislative session, with an ample number of budget bills and policy proposals still to be decided.
May 3 marks the 110th day of the session and signals to lawmakers the end of their per-diem expenses for housing and other needs.
Here are the highlights of Week 13 at the Capitol:
Budget bills
The House of Representatives approved three budget bills this week for the Rebuild Iowa Infrastructure Fund, Administration and Regulation, and Health and Human Services. The $1.9 billion Health and Human Services budget includes a $150 million bump in pay to the state’s Managed Care Organizations, providing health care for more than half-a-million Iowans receiving Medicaid.
