Some good news.

Just got this email.

Dear xxxxxx,

I’m writing to you with good news.

Yesterday afternoon, an Iowa district court entered an order where Planned Parenthood and the state of Iowa agreed that abortion procedures should be treated the same as all other procedures under Governor Reynolds’ Emergency Proclamation. This means we can leave medical decisions to the doctors, who will make case-by-case determinations with each patient.

Yesterday’s agreement ensures access to abortion services in Iowa. And while this is a very welcome development, we anticipate continuing to litigate this case for as long as the Proclamation is still in effect to ensure Iowans who need abortion care can continue to access it.

Surgical abortion care was halted earlier this week after Governor Reynolds proclaimed an Iowa Disaster Emergency for COVID-19—and banned surgical abortion. A public health crisis should never be manipulated to achieve a political agenda. We stand with our patients and will continue to ensure they have access to the essential health care they need, no matter what.

Yesterday was a win for Iowans. Thank you for standing with Planned Parenthood and with every person who needs our care.

In this together,

Erin Davison-Rippey
State Executive Director - Iowa
Planned Parenthood North Central States
