Racquel Smith sues Cardell Hayes, man convicted of killing Will Smith, shooting her
Former Saints lineman Will Smith's widow filed a lawsuit Friday seeking damages from the man who fatally shot her husband.
Racquel Smith filed her lawsuit in Orleans Parish Civil District Court on behalf of herself, her children and her husband's estate against Cardell Hayes, who a jury found also shot her on the night of April 9, 2016.
The lawsuit also targets the companies providing car insurance to her, Smith and Hayes, who were in two traffic collisions shortly before the deadly shooting in the Lower Garden District.
Also on Friday, Richard Hernandez — who along with his wife was riding in the Smiths' car that night — sued the insurance companies, Hayes and Racquel Smith, in her capacity as the manager of her late husband's estate.
