(21,874 posts)In arly August the Tigers were floundering and 10 games out. There was little hope and fans were just interested in seeing the young players get some time to develop. Then they just started winning. 4 out of 5 games, 8 out of 10 games. Could they make the playoffs? It wasn't until the last couple weeks of the season that people really started paying attention
But here we are, 1 game aaway from the ALCS. With the youngest team in baseball and 1 single starting pitcher. The Tigers are throwing bullpen games 3 of 4 games and it's really become an advantage. GO TIGERS!

(78,081 posts)He's been a maestro. He's a savant. And I really think, for better or for worse, the bullpen game being used the way Detroit is using them, is here to stay. It was masterful yesterday. You get to pick the other team's lineup basically. But the strategy was to not have Cleveland's Jose Ramirez see the same pitcher twice and it worked perfectly in that regard. You got Cleveland with a lineup full of left handed bats because we started a right hander who only threw 6 pitches, then we went to a lefty who did his job. That forced them to use a substitution in the 2nd inning.
