Recall effort launched against Michigan lawmaker accused of soliciting bribes
The Michigan lawmaker accused of seeking bribes in exchange for votes could soon be facing a recall challenge.
In May, Republican State Rep. Larry Inman was indicted on federal charges of attempted extortion, soliciting bribes and lying to an FBI agent. Now, some of his constituents have sent proposed recall language to Michigans Board of State Canvassers in an effort to oust the embattled lawmaker from office.
If the language is approved, petitioners would have 60 days to collect about 12,000 signatures. The nonpartisan coalition of constituents organizing the effort say they dont think it will be much of a challenge.
Theres nobody you can really talk to who isnt in favor of this, said Sondra Hardy, a philanthropist and former Republican Grand Traverse County Commissioner who is helping organize the effort.
