Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson honored with JFK Profile in Courage award

LANSING — Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson has been awarded a John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award, it was announced Thursday.

The honor for Benson, a Detroit Democrat, was announced on NBC's "Today" show by Jack Schlossberg, a grandson of former President Kennedy.

Honored for 2022 along with Benson were Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy, U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, Arizona House Speaker Russell "Rusty" Bowers, and Wandrea "Shaye" Moss, an employee of the Georgia Election Department.

The John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award was created in 1989 by members of President Kennedy's family to honor President John F. Kennedy and to recognize and celebrate the quality of political courage that he admired most, according to the website of the presidential library.
