Yes, I know. Hunting deer is an integral part of life here and, I am told, is important in controlling deer population.
But it is interesting the euphemism that is now being used, at least on the local TV news. No hunting, no killing, only "harvesting."
Sigh.

(4,795 posts)Just not as appealing as the pretty floors. Modern eating does a whole lot more to hide the reality of food than such a euphemism you mention. In my opinion, maybe people are using this to shed the negative connotation associated with sport hunting.

What are "they" afraid off? That fewer people will take to this "sport?" I doubt it.

(7,720 posts)when referring to the entire state is the term that has always been used. My almost 82 year old father harvested two deer in 4 minutes last weekend using a .30-06.

(1,495 posts)I just don't understand the "hunting culture" and I never will. Of my experience, the people that hunt are usually the last people I want out there with a gun. IMO "Harvesting" is not a term that should be used in regards to a living creature.

(7,720 posts)There are about 500,000 deer hunters in Minnesota. I bet you have met some in your brief time living here. You are implying something about deer hunters, but I don't know enough about you whether I should be offended or not. Your brief post just shows your ignorance about deer hunting and deer hunters.

(1,495 posts)I've been in MN since 2004 and I spent 3 years in the northern hinterlands of this state. Deer hunting season was a completely foreign concept to me. The hunters I interacted with during that period (not saying all of them just the lot I met) were some of the rudest and most reckless people I ever met. Trespassing, baiting, accidentally shooting each other or their dogs, drinking while hunting and then bragging about it when they came back. And 3 of the aforementioned things were committed by LEOs. If hunters want to have a better reputation outside of their circle, then more need to be willing to call out the ones that make them look bad.

Exactly how many deer hunters did you meet out of the 500,000 deer hunters in Minnesota?
