Versailles man accused in insurrection scheduled for Friday hearing
NEW BLOOMFIELD — A Versailles man charged with crimes against the United States for his involvement in the January 6 insurrection has a hearing in federal court Friday.
55-year-old Matthew Eugene Loganbill is charged with Obstruction of a Congressional Proceeding, Unlawful Entry, and Violent Entry or Disorderly Conduct for his role in the January attack on the Capitol, according to a federal probable cause statement. In an interview with the FBI on Jan. 13, Loganbill admitted to breaching the capitol, wearing a gas mask, and threatening a Capitol Police Officer. He claimed that although he saw police fighting back the insurrectionists, he didn't see any signs that said he was entering a restricted area.
The FBI document says Loganbill's answers to investigators' questions contradicted the account he published on his facebook page after the attack in several ways, including his account of how he broke into the building. He told FBI agents that he "followed protesters and entered the Capitol," whereas he said on facebook that "We pushed forward and broke the line into the capitol."
Loganbill came to the attention of the FBI after two confidential witnesses contacted them with information that Loganbill had published several posts about his involvement in the insurrection on facebook.
