Daines introduces resolution against socialism

Sen. Steve Daines introduced a Senate resolution Monday condemning what he said is a growing socialism movement in the United States, blasting Democrats and proposed programs and somewhat echoing comments by President Donald Trump who has avowed America will never be a Socialist country.

The Montana Republican spoke on the floor on stopping what he called a radical, socialist movement "plaguing the country."

"What makes America so great is that we are not bonded by one ethnicity or one race, but we are bonded together by the idea of liberty," Daines said, adding Montanans want less government.

"We are at a pivotal time in our great nation’s history," he said. "America was founded upon the principles of liberty, the free enterprise system and the promotion of national sovereignty and a strong national defense. In Montana, we understand the principles of freedom. However, a radical, socialist, far Left movement is growing across this country. And it has taken root as the new voice of the Democratic Party ... Today we make a choice. Freedom or Socialism. I choose freedom."

they should not file for assistance due to tariffs causing them financial hardship. They need to suck it up because that’s they way capitalism works. Expecting the government to bail them out is pure socialism.

programs we have now? No more public services like fire or police, no public education, no roads or bridges, no public transportation, no 911 or first responders. Tell the red state's to pay their own way and stop freeloading off blue states. Forget disaster aid when the next super Hurricane, tornado cluster, 1000 year flood, forest fire, or earthquake hits our area.

Beyond the silly hyperbole this nonsense wouldn't hold up in court. We are not "bonded together by the idea of liberty", but by the rights enumerated in our Constitution, including Freedom of Speech and the right to freely assemble. We all have a Constitutional right to be a socialist, a communist, a fascist, and even a Republican.

I spoke to a couple of ranchers while I was there. They are NOT fans of Daines.
Where in Montana are you from, if I may ask?
I spoke to those ranchers near Billings, after driving up there from Cody, WY. ( A beautiful drive, BTW).

that ranchers around Billings wouldn’t be fans of Daines. Wow...there is hope after all!! If Billings isn’t happy with Steve Diane’s then there is a crack in the repuke armor up here. What brought you to Montana?

I live in Missoula which is quite progressive. I’m happy you enjoyed your visit to Big Sky Country. It is quite beautiful.
