McClellan slaps Murphy on minimum wage hike

Ocean City Councilman Antwan McClellan, a Republican candidate for State Assembly in the 1st district, today stepped up his attacks on Gov. Phil Murphy and the Democratic-controlled Legislature for supporting an increase to New Jersey’s minimum wage.

The minimum wage went from $8.85 to $10-per-hour yesterday and will increase incrementally until it reaches $15-per-hour at the start of 2024.

McClellan faces incumbents Bruce Land (D-Vineland) and Matthew Milam (D-Vineland) in the general election. Land and Milam both voted against the increase.

“The minimum wage increase further burdens local employers and entrepreneurs already struggling to make ends meet, such as a pizzeria or boardwalk business,” McClellan stated. “The additional costs forced by Governor Murphy and Trenton Democrats will in no doubt lead to reduced hours for workers and even possible layoffs, while jacking up property taxes in towns that rely on seasonal workers and the tourism industry.”
