State Attack on Rutgers University continues

A bill coming before the State Senate and Assembly would disband Rutgers University's Board of Trustees and leave only the Board of Governors (made up entirely of political appointees) in its place.

This is another foul, corrupt attempt to influence the university, possibly to restart last year's attempts to break up the university into pieces and sell them off to the highest bidder. Certainly it will place the state university of New Jersey into the snake pit of political influences.

The bill was co-sponsored by Senate President Steven Sweeney, the DINO from Gloucester, who is reputed to be heavily under the influence of the corrupt Third Way democratic party boss, George Norcross.

The whole thing smells like another attempt to destroy public higher education in New Jersey. Certainly the secrecy and hurry suggests serious ulterior motives, rather than any genuine interest in improving education in this already-suffering state.

News story

Bill

If you're from Jersey, contact your state representatives ASAP and let them know this continued interference is unconscionable and a waste of time. Rutgers is one of the strongest public institutions in the state, and Christie & his south Jersey DINO allies can not be allowed to break it down.

2. Much obliged!

Thanks, friend. We're doing what we can down here.

It figures that they would pull this nonsense in the summer, when the faculty and staff of the university are largely dispersed and unable to meet quickly to show a unified front, like we did when they tried to take Rutgers-Camden away from us last year.

This is revenge for their loss, plain and simple.

3. Some good news

According to my union email:

The Assembly didn't post the Board of Trustees-dissolving bill, and the State Senate posted it but did not vote on it. So the measure is dead for now.

Apparently tons of people contacted them about it, and they decided not to act. I guess it could still be put forward next session, but for now we're good.

Thanks to all who got involved for RU!
