I am New Mexico bound!

I decided that I can stay at a cheap hotel and go on interviews in Albuquerque as easily as I can here in Houston. I'll head that way Monday and arrive some time Tuesday. I already have 2 in person interviews lined up. Might have 3 by the time I get there.

I almost immediately got a job at a law firm But I was supposed to be shared between 2 firms. One attorney was older, had a bigger operation and his books were a mess. I told him, diplomatically, that they were a mess and what needed to be fixed. He decided to keep using the bookkeeper who messed things up because he was cheaper. Not my circus, not my monkeys.

The younger attorney just split off his practice in 2023. We got along FAMOUSLY, but he didn't yet have enough business to keep me busy full time. So he let me go after 90 days, but wrote me a wonderful letter of recommendation.

I found another job in mid November. Actually, I had to choose between 2 offers. So I accepted one and went in on a Monday, only to discover they HAD NO MONEY. I mean like bouncing paychecks no money. No line of credit either. They had plenty of open invoices that were owed to them, some past due, but when I asked about them, they said we couldn't expect payment any time soon. I woke up to go in on the 3rd day and threw up. The let me go, but did pay me for the 2 days.

Things were pretty quiet in December, which is to be expected. I have one, maybe 2 more unemployment checks. I really only need to work full time for 3 more years.

In summer, when I'm wearing flip-flops, I can count to 20. Does that mean that if we were working at the same place, I would make more money? Maybe I'll move to New Mexico. Do I need a passport to get there?

Perhaps I'm a bit slow here, but I'm not sure how the wearing of flip flops impairs one's numerical acumen..Please advise.

My ex worked with a woman who applied for a passport because she was going on vacation to New Mexico.

This is a wonderful state. When I first moved here in 2008, and was getting temp work through various placement agencies, during the winter of 2008-2009 there were very few jobs available to me. When I asked the agencies, they said, "If you had bookkeeping or accounting skills, there would be jobs for you." So trust me, you should have no trouble finding a job.

and I spoke with a freelance bookkeeper who has more work than she can handle, so she may farm out some to me. I have some pretty ugly credit card balances right now, so I want to pay those down as quickly as possible.

Plus, we are coming up on tax season, and lots of us need accountants for that. I happen to have one that I've used ever since I moved here, so I won't be offering to change, but the tax season should be helpful.

And I understand about ugly credit card balances. Hang in there, do your best to pay them down.

Several years ago I had to good fortune to get a small inheritance that allowed me to pay off my then much-too-high credit card balance. Ever since then I've been able to pay off the credit card each month, and not carry a balance forward. I am very fortunate.
